The home
was originally a 1.5 story house (circa 1857); the full, second
story was added over several years between 1903 and 1909. Though
the original building was of a classical, Greek Revival design,
remodeling alterations are more indicative of the Prairie and
bungalow styles.

The house
features elements of both craftsman styles: built-in glass door
cabinetry, oak floors with mahogany inlaid details and borders,
woodwork details and broad-front elevation windows with beveled
glass transoms.

From
local history, we found that our house was moved here by barge
after a yellow fever epidemic hit the near by town of Port St.
Joe. It was at this time that the house was renovated. The
millwork was done locally at Shipes Mill.

The
interior features bead board walls and black cypress trim. We
did most of the restoration work ourselves, and learned by
research and trial and error. Fortunately we had willing
neighbors to lend ideas and solutions.
